1950's Classical Guitar - Alphonso Checa 26 May 1959

Up for sale is a genuine Alphonso Checa guitar from 1959, probably made for a flamenco player but also used as a classical guitar. As you can see on the label the date is 26 May 1959 and there is an initial after the number 1320 which looks like AC. The number 1320 is how many guitars this luthier has made since 1935, since that was the year he started his business. If you add up the figures from 1935 - 1959 then he was making approximately 4.5 guitars per month which is about right. I have spoken to quite a few vintage guitar sellers and they all seem to think it is a" tourist piece" which simply means it was made for tourists, made from cheaper woods and quickly knocked together and something to keep a bit of money coming in to the business when times were lean. This was quite common practice, and the people I have spoken to see a lot of these types of guitars made by top name luthiers. If this had been made from the proper woods and finished to a high standard it would probably be worth about £3000, as it is it's worth about £250 in good clean working condition. The guitar has been gently cleaned as it had been stored in an attic for years and was very dusty and dirty, the tuners are still working and will need taking off to clean them properly as they are hard to turn due to surface rust. I have put new strings on and it does sound quite good and the action is ok the intonation is good and it plays quite loudly and has a good tone to it, in fact it's quite nice to play on in my opinion. There are a few minor faults as you would expect from an instrument of this age, but nothing needs doing urgently and it's playable as it stands. Here's a list of the things I have found.... 1: The back of the guitar has a 1 inch section where it needs a bit of glue on the bottom edge 2: There is a crack in one of the internal braces and this also needs gluing 3: The ends of the fret wires protrude slightly on the top edge of the finger board and need dressing 4: The tuning pegs need taking off and cleaning and greasing as they are tight to turn probably due to the surface rust on them 5: The nut looks like it is a bone and has a crack in it but is ok and doesn't come loose when the strings are off 6: There are a few light scratches and small dings but nothing serious. Here are a few clips of the guitar in action, not a great recording but gives you an idea of roughly the sound of the guitar.
